Twenty Five Years…

I had to type it out to believe it. Twenty Five Years? A Scooter Club? On Long Island? That is hard for even me to believe and I am the guy that started it. We have had a long and storied history. We have been from one end of Long Island to the other. Sometimes in the same day. We have done a lot of things that could only be done as a group. The things we do are as a group and could not be done alone. Riding with a dozen Scooters in your rear view with a dozen more in front of you is one. Having your routes and destintions decided on by a group mind is another. We have always been a group of many leaders and I hope that never changes.

However it changes all the time! LOL. That is why somebody has to be in charge. Sometimes when it all can not be figured out, somebody has to make a desicion. That’s me. For 25 years, it has been me when push comes to shove. If nobody was in charge we would spin out of control and have no place to go when those kickstands go up.

Yes, Our way be considered unusual for a club, but not for a Democracy. We arent going to get Political here, but it is the members that control things. When they want to. Most do not want to. So again, if nobody is in charge or willing to make events, choose destinations and more, we would have nowhere to go when those kickstands go up.

25 years has been a long time for me too. Besides all the Drama that has come my way, I have been dealing with many Phyisical issues. In the past year Diabetes tried to kill me, I had a Double Bypass Open Heart Surgery and now I am dealing with Sciatica Nerve Damage that has almost crippled me. I am working very hard at the Gym, Phyisical Therapy and following Doctor’s orders. I have not tried to ride yet this year, but I will soon. I recently installed a Kickstand on my Vespa. That should make things easier but I will be limiting my riding. I do not know if I can lead rides every Sunday.

Below is a pic of Sagamore Hill. Thats where we went on our firsr ride. I will be asking the help of all of you this year, our 25th year to help us to continue to, Scoot On… Marbles Mahoney, Founder & President

I have to give you a great deal of credit Angelo. Keeping a group together that long is no small deal. Here in the Hudson Valley there is zero scooter activity and after living here for seven years I finally saw my first Vespa. Usually I have the only scooter at Motorcycle Rallies and only last year did a young man show up on an XMax at a local rally. I had my Nighthawk that day or there would have been two of us. Keep On Keeping On.
